Symphonic Band announces 2007 District Festival repertoire

The Parkside High School Symphonic Band will perform music of two of the finest American composers of concert band literature for rating at this year’s High School District Band Festival, sponsored by the Eastern Shore (Maryland) Band Directors Association.

The band’s first selection will be Poetic Intermezzo by James Barnes. Published in 1985, this piece is known for its lush harmonies and lyrical style, both of which demand the highest level of musicianship from all performers involved.

Secondly, the band will present Abram’s Pursuit by David Holsinger, an explosive and energetic piece requiring tremendous technical skill and great intensity of sound to keep the audience on the edge of its seat.

The Senior High District Band Festival will be held this year at Kent County High School on March 14, 2007. Friends and family of the band are invited to attend this special event. Performance times and further details will be released as the event draws closer.

The Parkside Symphonic Band has received unanimous “superior” ratings from all judges at the District Band Festival annually since 2002 and is highly regarded for its performance and interpretation of contemporary literature for concert band.
